Soma (carisoprodol) is a medication that helps to relieve back pain strains and sprains caused to different muscles in the body. Soma serves as a muscle relaxant. How Soma works is that it interferes with the signals that are sent by the nerves to the brain that cause muscles spasms.

Soma also has other ingredients such as alginic acid, magnesium stearate, potassium sorbate, starch, and tribasic calcium phosphate.
Soma Side Effects:
Soma has some common side effects such as feeling drowsy.
Soma can cause depression and agitation.
Soma can cause a headache and a flushed face and light headedness when one tries to get on their feet suddenly. Soma can cause a loss of coordination of the limbs.
Soma may also cause a rapid heart beat, tremors and sleeplessness.
Soma sometimes causes the stomach to get upset, vertigo and vomiting.
Soma taken together with sleeping pills tranquilizers and other central nervous system depressants should be avoided when taking carisoprodol because it intensifies the sedative effect.
Soma can cause a feeling of euphoria and confusion.
Soma causes the pupils to dilate in some cases.
Soma enhances the effect of alcohol.
Vitamin B6 may decrease the effects of carbide and elodea.
Soma does not interact with vitamins or herbal supplements.
Dosage for Soma
Children below 12 years of age should not take Soma.
Adults may take Soma 3 to 4 times daily or as prescribed by the physician.
Soma Missed Dose
Do not take a double dose if you have missed a dose .Skip the dose of Soma if you have forgotten to take it on time. A double dose can be harmful.
Soma Overdose:
An overdose of Soma can cause hallucinations, delirium and severe confusion.Carbidopa is always taken along with levodova and so the symptoms of overdose are associated with the use of both the drugs.
Your health care practitioner should be contacted immediately in case of an overdose of Soma.
Soma used by Pregnant Women:
Extensive research on the effects of Soma used by pregnant women has not been conducted hence consultation with a doctor is advised. Soma (Carisoprodol) may pass into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding a child, so your doctor is likely to ask you to stop breast feeding till you are taking Soma for treatment.
Soma for Seniors:
Soma when used by the elderly who are suffering from liver or kidney disease may experience sleepiness or impaired concentration when using this drug.
